Mental Health Support/in School Team (MHST) is an established Mental Health service supporting children and young people aged 4-18 years and their education settings to support wellbeing and mental health.
There are currently roles available in the following teams: New Forest, Basingstoke, Winchester and Southampton. There will be an opportunity when you apply to list your preferred location.
This post provides the opportunity to complete a Postgraduate Diploma in Brief Evidence-Based Interventions for Children and Young People with Common Mental Health Problems, that is being run in collaboration with the University of Southampton. Following completion of this course, you will be a qualified Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP).
As a Trainee EMHP, you will learn how to provide treatments and interventions that help young people overcome their mild to moderate mental health difficulties. Trainees will work within our MHST services delivering evidence-based interventions whilst undertaking a programme of training at the University of Southampton. Ongoing employment and band progression will be dependent on successful completion of the university course within the 12 month contract.
Main duties of the job
Applicants must be able and willing to travel across Hampshire and to Southampton University. Due to the nature of the role, car drivers are preferable.
In this role you will be accepting referrals via agreed protocols and supporting those in the self--management of their recovery. You will also provide telephone/online--based assessments and treatments, conduct group workshops and face to face assessments, support parents and young people through guided self--help and contribute to the wider delivery of our services in local schools, colleges and the community.
The team is made up of qualified Wellbeing Practitioners, Senior Wellbeing Practitioners and High intensity CBT Therapists delivering Low Intensity and HI interventions and Whole school Approach work within local schools and colleges.
We are looking for very able graduates from a range of disciplines who are genuinely interested in helping young people, and possess a deep level of empathy, and patience. You will need outstanding telephone and written communication skills, as well as the ability to work well in a team.
Applicants for these posts do not require a recognised professional qualification in mental health, although previous training/experience in mental health is an advantage.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a CYP-IAPT service that invests in the development of its team members.
Interviews will be early November and all applicants will need to be available to start in their roles from middle of January 2025.
