Job summary
We are looking for a compassionate and dynamic Bladder & Bowel Healthcare Support Worker to work as part of the Specialist Bladder & Bowel Team in Southampton.
The service promotes bladder & bowel health, along with all aspects of pelvic floor dysfunction through interventions by specifically trained Nurses, Health Care Support Workers and a Women's Health Physiotherapist. We provide an assessment and treatment service for patients with bladder and bowel dysfunction, following clinical pathways agreed by Consultants and GPs. The Bladder and Bowel service also assesses and provides continence containment products following the Trust Formulary appropriate to the clinical need of the patient.
In this role you will be working autonomously to assist the Bladder & Bowel Team Lead to effectively coordinate the Level 1 clinics (containment product provision), providing appropriate advice and information for people with bladder & bowel dysfunction. You will be leading the Level 1 clinics, conducting holistic bladder & bowel assessments within the community. The successful candidate will also work alongside Bladder & Bowel Specialist Nurses in Level 2 clinics (specialist clinics) to support diagnostic and follow up assessments for service users.
This role provides an opportunity to work collaboratively with clinical colleagues to develop the service and continually improve the quality of care delivery, striving for excellence and improving patient experience.
Main duties of the job
*Assist the Bladder and Bowel Service Clinical Lead to effectively coordinate the day to day running of the Level 1 assessment team
*Work autonomously, giving appropriate advice and information on clinical matters relating to bladder & bowel dysfunction.
*Lead level 1 bladder and bowel assessment clinics within the community, completing domiciliary visits when appropriate in relation to performing bladder and bowel assessments.
*Work alongside Bladder & Bowel Specialist Nurses in Level 2 bladder & bowel specialist clinics to support diagnostic and follow up assessments for patients.
*Work collaboratively and co-operatively with clinical colleagues to develop the service and continually improve the quality-of-care delivery.
*Be able to demonstrate up-to-date knowledge in bladder and bowel/continence clinical issues underpinned by theoretical knowledge in line with national developments.
*Identify situations of clinical risk and take appropriate action to ensure a safe environment for patients/clients/families and staff.
*To directly respond to queries on a daily basis, only seeking advice when enquiry falls outside of defined area of responsibility.
*Ensure effective collaboration and communication with the team, patients, carers, co-ordinating care and fostering effective working relationships to achieve best health outcomes
*Actively listens, drawing out information and checks understanding.
*Empathises with others and considers their needs and feelings.
