Job summary
Hampshire & IoW Healthcare are taking active part in an exciting and pioneering 2 year research project. It is a National Multisite Randomised Control Trial (RCT) run by Oxford Health, investigating the effect of Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT) for children and adolescents. Potential research subjects will have generated concern about violence and aggression and will have been referred to Community Forensic CAMHS. The opportunity is unprecedented and important. We are collaborating with University College London, the University of Hertfordshire and colleagues across England.
Ours is a cohort of children traditionally not offered talking therapy. The FCAMHS MBT trial will be a national first large-scale investigation to see if one form of talking therapy can help reduce risks of violence and aggression in individuals referred to the team.
Applications are invited for a Band 8a post devoted to the 2-year trial as part of the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Regional Forensic CAMHS team. As such you will be trained in MBT and supported to develop towards becoming an Accredited Mentalization Based Therapist. You will be offed bespoke training for MBT tailored to the needs of children supported by Forensic CAMHS. You will also have ongoing supervision to build the skills to become an accredited MBT Practitioner.
Additionally, you will be a member of our Forensic CAMHS team. So, you will also work alongside us for a smaller part of your role, providing consultations, training and other team functions.
Main duties of the job
Clinical practice
To carry out specialist psychological therapy assessments, primarily for MBT of clients referred to the service, based upon the appropriate use, interpretation, and integration of complex psychological data.
To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological therapy treatment and / or management of a client's wellbeing and mental health challenges.
To be responsible for implementing highly specialist psychological therapy interventions for individuals, carers and families.
To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes.
To provide MBT specialist therapy, as well as FCAMHS Business As Usual.
To undertake risk assessment, formulation, and management for individual clients with complex presentations.
To be up to date with both de-escalation, physical breakaway and PMVA techniques appropriate to the service environment.
Teaching, training, and supervision:
To help provide clinical placements for trainees from various disciplines.
To contribute to the pre- and post-qualification teaching, as appropriate.
To organise, produce and deliver training.
Develop the role and profile of the MBT approach throughout the course of the trial.
Research and Service Evaluation
To be actively involved in the delivery of this MBT research trial and the all-important data gathering requirements.
