We are recruiting for an Assistant Psychologist to join our multidisciplinary Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS).

Psychology sits at the heart of the service and reaches into all aspects of service delivery. You will be part of the Psychology and Psychological Therapies specialism within the wider multi-disciplinary CAMHS Team. Working closely with Psychologists, Psychotherapists, CBT therapists and Creative Arts Therapists.

We pride ourselves in delivering high quality and innovative psychological solutions, working collaboratively with children, young people and their families to deliver dynamic and evidence-based therapies. You would be supporting senior psychologists with the delivery of individual therapy and group work. You would also support the Consultant Psychologist in delivering service improvements and team training initiatives.

The Service has strong links with the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Training Course at Southampton University and provides placements for Trainee Psychologists. This link offers the opportunity for you to discover what training involves directly from trainees.

Main duties of the job

This role offers the opportunity to work in diverse ways with a full range of mental health professionals.

This role will be working specifically with young people requiring longer term psychological interventions and there will be a strong service development component.

The post holder will be responsible, under the supervision of the Consultant Psychologist for:

Assisting senior psychologists in the delivery of assessments and therapeutic interventions in line with NICE guidelines

Supporting the design and delivery of parent and group workshops

Preparing resources and supporting qualified psychologists with training of Mental Health Professionals

Participating in service development and quality improvement projects, to ensure positive service user experience and the timely delivery of psychological assessment and interventions

Supporting the wider MDT in using psychometric measures to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions

You will be expected to liaise effectively with our professional colleagues within education, social care directorate and the voluntary sector

  • An upper second class honours degree or higher in Psychology. Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.

Desirable

  • Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis

Experience

  • Prior experience as an assistant psychologist, a research assistant, health care assistant / support worker or teaching assistant
  • Knowledge of IT systems, research design and methodology

Desirable

  • Advanced keyboard skills
  • Experience of working in a mental health setting
