Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist (Paediatrics)

Job summary

We are recruiting for a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist (Paediatrics) to lead the neurodevelopmental service, within our team on the Isle of Wight.

You will take a leading role independently, providing clinical expertise, as the Senior Physiotherapy Clinical Specialist for neurodevelopmental disorders, working within community settings.

To act as a source of clinical expertise on the management of clients within the Specialism and provide advice to patients, senior physiotherapy colleagues and other healthcare professionals.

To provide an effective, high standard physiotherapy service for the specific Physiotherapy Service Specialism.

Specific duties will include leading on the neonatal follow up service, early intervention and the CPIP service.

To be responsible for the clinical development within this specialism

To continually evaluate service provision, propose and carry out developments that will improve service delivery.

To act as a highly specialised clinical resource and support to a wide range of other disciplines, agencies and carers by providing specialist knowledge and skills, including contribution to education and research programmes as required. The team is currently actively involved in the SPELL & ROBUST research trials.

To act at all times in the best interest of the patients under your care.

Main duties of the job

To independently co-ordinate, provide and develop the specialist care for patients with neurodevelopmental disorders, ensuring best practice is followed, including national guidelines such as the NICE guidelines for management of babies born preterm and spasticity management.

To independently lead and manage the CPIP service within the team.

Develop local guidelines as well as actively collect data for research and audit purposes to continually evaluate and develop the service specialism as needed.

To take a leading role in the advanced assessment and treatment of patients with neurodevelopmental conditions, who may have complex and/or chronic presentation, to determine clinical diagnosis and physiotherapy treatment indicated, and to maintain records as an autonomous practitioner.

To independently supervise and teach senior, junior and assistant physiotherapists, physiotherapy students (including those at pre-reg Masters Level) and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

To keep up to date with developments within the specialism, undertaking audit and participating in research.

To independently supervise, initiate and participate in evidence-based projects and be responsible for implementing clinical changes within designated specialism.

To provide specialist advice, teaching and training, as an autonomous clinical specialist practitioner to other members of the MDT regarding the advanced care management of patients within this specialism.
