Job summary

We are looking for an experienced and passionate nurse with a strong interest in safeguarding to join our dynamic Sexual Health and HIV Service as a Safeguarding Lead Nurse.

We are a busy open access Level 3 Sexual Health and HIV service operating across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. The services we provide include:

  • Screening, diagnosis, and treatment of sexually transmitted infections.
  • HIV care,
  • Provision and ongoing management of PrEP and PEPSE,
  • Contraception including emergency contraception,
  • Sexual health promotion,
  • Sexual health advising and partner notification,
  • Psychosexual counselling,
  • Outreach service including HMP services.
  • Sexual Assault Referral Centre

We have an extensive digital offer including, a patient health record, online booking, online STI screening, webchat, and remote consultations.

The sexual health service line is committed to the Vanguard Method for Systems Thinking as its management philosophy, for which the post holder will receive training. This informs the design, management, measurement, and culture of our services. Systems thinking is an academic discipline and philosophy with the objective of helping practitioners to understand a system as a whole, by shining light on the interdependencies between its component parts. The Vanguard Method for Systems Thinking is a practical means by which to apply systems thinking in service organisations, such as ours.

Main duties of the job

Act as the lead safeguarding professional within the Sexual Health and HIV service, providing expert advice and support to the team.

Identify, assess and manage complex safeguarding concerns involving children, young people and adults at risk.

Provide safeguarding supervision and ensure robust systems are in place to support staff across the service.

Attend and contribute to Multi-Agency Safeguarding meetings.

Deliver safeguarding training and promote trauma informed, culturally competent practice.

Lead on Safeguarding audits, incident reviews and quality improvement initiatives. Collaborate with partner organisations to ensure safe and effective safeguarding pathways.

Contribute to service development, policy writing and alignment with statutory safeguarding guidance.

Deputise for the Modern Matron with clinical leadership and team management duties. Be skilled in contraception and sexual health, working autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

  • BSc Nursing or RN currently registered with NMC.
  • First degree in clinically relevant subject.
