Job summary
To be an effective leader, creating a well led, safe, effective and responsive caring environment. To act as ward manager with 24-hour operational responsibility for managing, co-ordinating and delegating work and working closely with a multi-professional team, planning and monitoring to ensure effective use of resources within allocated budgets and to liaise with other health and social care professionals across organisations to ensure continuous service provision and identify the potential for service developments.
To provide expert general medical clinical management for patients with rehabilitation and/or complex care needs, who are at risk of deteriorating health that may result in declining quality of life and professional and accountable leadership of the ward team ensuring positive outcomes and quality care for patients. To provide expert stroke and neuro rehabilitation management, alongside the therapy team, working closely to develop the service.
To ensure that the ward team contributes to the implementation of the Trusts Nursing and Clinical Governance Strategies incorporating CQC standards.
Main duties of the job
Provide effective leadership and management to staff which promotes high performance standards both individually and as a team, in the achievement of the Trust's objectives and priorities.
. Be accountable 24/7, for the delivery of high standards of compassionate care in line with the Trusts Strategy and reflecting the Trusts values
. Undertake senior nurse role and responsibilities across the inpatient areas as required, including participation in a weekend/BH rota.
. Act as a role model and change agent to influence the adoption of best practice with regards to care standards.
. Responsible for ward budget ensuring the effective use of resources within allocated funding.
To act as investigator and final approver for incidents occurring within ward area, when appropriate, ensuring all staff are trained in using Safeguard and participate in learning from incidents.
. To be responsible for recognising and reporting risks, reviewing and updating the locality Risk Register.
. Support the investigation of complaints demonstrating good understanding of the complaints process and participating in early, local resolution whenever possible.
. Complete and submit statistics including performance indicators and returns at the required time.
. Maintain accountability for practice following the Nursing and Midwifery Council Codes of Professional Conduct and compliance with the Trust's Policies and Procedures.
