Clinical Lead Specialist Nurse - Child Protection

Job summary

We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Clinical Lead for Child Protection to join our Community Paediatric Medical Service. You will provide a high quality clinical leadership across the service for Child Protection with Service Clinical and Operational Leads, providing specialist advice, driving forward service development, maintaining standards and ensuring the provision of up to date safe, compassionate and evidence based care

This is a rewarding and specialist role, supporting the Trusts statutory responsibilities to safeguard and protect children and young people. In addition, a new county wide service for children who are suspected to have been sexually assaulted has been established. This is an all age service, with children under 14 years of age being seen by the Community Paediatric Medical Service.

As part of the multidisciplinary team, you will be involved in the coordination and clinical delivery of child protection medical assessments, working in close collaboration with Paediatricians, Social Care and the Police. You will also contribute to service development, staff training and multi agency safeguarding work and the delivery of clinical supervision.

Main duties of the job

  • To be a source of specialist knowledge and provide a specialist Nursing Service to children and families where children are undergoing a child protection medical.
  • To provide specialist clinical advice and recommendations to the multidisciplinary teams and others involved in the care of children who are referred to the child protection medical service.
  • To devise and deliver training and safeguarding advice for child protection medicals, to partner stakeholders across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, to support the safeguarding of children to ensure appropriate and timely referrals to the Child Protection Medical Service when needed.
  • Lead and coordinate nursing staff attendance at strategy discussions where contact Child Sexual Assault (CSA) or other forms of abuse are suspected in order to advise the multiagency team as to whether or not a child protection medical assessment is indicated and the type of medical needed
  • To participate in the medical roster and to act as assisting professional (alongside a paediatrician) for CSA medicals (following appropriate training, supervision and attainment of duty specific capabilities in line with appropriate competency framework)
  • To provide specific specialist knowledge and skills relating to the Hampshire wide Sexual Assault Referral Centre and be a source of advice concerning this service.
