Principal Pharmacist Divisional Lead

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Divisional Lead Pharmacist for the Isle of Wight area of the recently created Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

The Trust's success depends on all managers playing an active role to make sure the existing areas of good employment practice are universally embedded within the organisation.

The post holder will be expected to lead and develop clinical pharmacy services within their division. They will be responsible for implementing and monitoring the Trust's clinical pharmacy standards as well as ensuring the clinical service is of high quality and patient-focused. They will identify gaps and problem areas in the service and use appropriate methods including quality improvement to improve the service to the patient and ensure cost-effective use of medicines.

We are seeking a skilled communicator with the ability to engage productively across the board, someone who remains calm under pressure and demonstrates self-reliance.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the ability to apply a high level of concentration at all times. The role requires high self-awareness, and understanding of own emotions, strengths and limitations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To ensure the provision of a high quality, responsive, safe and patient centred pharmacy service to all patients within the division.
  • To lead on quality improvement projects for pharmacy alongside other senior pharmacists and healthcare professionals.
  • To co-ordinate medicine related audits within the division.
  • To support pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in their delivery of a clinical/operational service.
  • To provide specialist advice on pharmaceutical matters undertaking risk management and ensuring compliance with medicines legislation.
  • To work with primary care and secondary providers to improve medicines management across the interface.
  • To attend relevant divisional meetings to present reports including data on quality, governance, finances and performance.
  • To attend and contribute to the Trust's Pharmacy Senior Management meetings.
  • To attend and contribute to the Trust's Medicines Management Committee as needed.
  • To provide cover for other divisional lead pharmacists.
