Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

Applied Psychologist or Accredited Psychological Therapist

The closing date is 29 June 2025

Job summary

Are you a compassionate Applied Psychologist or Accredited Psychological Therapist who is enthusiastic about supporting people and families during their maternity journey?

We are inviting applications to join our psychology-led Maternity Mental Health Service. Our team provides a trauma-informed psychological service to support care for people struggling with tokophobia (severe fear of childbirth), birth trauma, and antenatal anxiety linked with previous maternity trauma or perinatal loss. Experience of working in a perinatal psychology service or physical health care setting is desirable, though not essential. Candidates should have strong leadership and clinical skills.

You will join a small, supportive team of psychology professionals and peer support workers. Our Trust-wide service works closely alongside our colleagues within maternity services across Hampshire & IOW. You will benefit from regular supervision, Trust well-being services, and support to access training and development opportunities.

The Maternity Mental Health Service is part of a network of Perinatal Services within the Trust, which also includes the Community Perinatal Mental Health Team and the Mother and Baby inpatient unit. We have strong links with the University of Southampton and offer placements for Trainees on the Doctoral Programme in Clinical Psychology.

We are pleased to consider applications from recently/newly qualified Practitioner Psychologists for a Preceptorship Post (commencing at AfC Band 7).

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will:

*Support a psychologically informed framework of understanding and care within local maternity services.

*Assess and formulate the mental health needs of people experiencing difficulties directly linked to their maternity experience (including tokophobia, maternity trauma, antenatal anxiety and perinatal bereavement).

*Provide evidence-based psychological therapy, as outlined by the NICE Guidelines and Quality Standards Pathway for Antenatal and Postnatal Mental Health Care.

*Offer specialist consultation and psychological supervision for identified maternity staff (including the Specialist Mental Health Midwives, Birth Reflections Midwives and Bereavement Midwives).

*Deliver education and training for staff supporting families across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

*Undertake line management and clinical supervision within the Service as appropriate, including for trainees on placement.

*Participate in service improvement, audit, and research projects.

*Demonstrate observable outcomes and impact of their work.
