Job summary
We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a CAMHS Division Tutor to join HIOW Healthcare NHS Trust. The postholder will provide educational leadership, support, and guidance to all resident doctors in training within CAMHS, including Foundation Doctors, Core Trainees, Higher/Specialist Trainees, and Academic Trainees.
Working closely with Divisional Directors of Medical Education and reporting to the Associate DME (Mental Health), the postholder will play a key role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality education and training across CAMHS services. They will work in partnership with the CAMHS leadership team including the Clinical Director, Associate Medical Directors, General Managing Director, and Heads of Service to maintain a positive learning environment that aligns patient safety and service quality with effective education.
The role involves close collaboration with clinical and educational supervisors within CAMHS, supporting them to provide high-quality supervision, and working with AMDs to ensure job plans reflect educational responsibilities. The postholder will help ensure that the learning needs of trainees are protected from service pressures.
The postholder will work with educational leaders across the Trust, including the Guardian of Safe Working, SAS Tutors, PGME colleagues, rota coordinators, and regional training leads in HE Wessex (Wessex Deanery).
Main duties of the job
T
he postholder will ensure that all resident doctors in CAMHS have an accredited educational and named clinical supervisor, with regular supervision in line with RCPsych and RCGP standards. They will work with PGME admin colleagues to maintain an up-to-date list of accredited supervisors and will provide feedback on supervision quality to the Associate DME for Mental Health, CAMHS AMDs, and Deanery colleagues, resolving issues collaboratively.
They will ensure all trainees receive local induction to CAMHS, including specialist CAMHS out-of-hours rota induction, and support rota compliance with national T&Cs, working with the rota coordinator, residents, AMDs, and Guardian of Safe Working (GOSW). They will escalate persistent issues where necessary and support STs in coordinating on-call supervision.
The postholder will work closely with PGME, HR, and educational colleagues across HIOW, contribute to the Clinical Tutors' Working Group, and help facilitate attendance at academic programmes and Balint Groups. They will oversee processes for notifying HR of trainee sickness or referrals to PSW/RTT resources and provide local support for HEW (Deanery) visits.
They will support supervisors managing trainees requiring additional help and notify the Associate DME and CAMHS AMDs of any serious incidents, long sickness, or complaints involving trainees. The role will form part of the postholder's annual appraisal, requiring ongoing CPD and accredited trainer status.
