Clinical Area Matron

Job summary

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Area Matron to join our leadership team and play a pivotal role in driving the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care across our service line.

This is a key leadership position with a strong focus on clinical safety, governance, and exceptional standards of care. As Area Matron, you will provide visible and professional leadership across community nursing and therapy teams ensuring that every patient receives care that is safe, effective, and consistently well-led.

Working closely with Matrons, Service Managers, and the Head of Quality & Professions, you will lead on clinical governance, champion best practices, and ensure that care delivery across inpatient areas meets the highest standards. You'll be a trusted and accessible leader, someone colleagues can look to for guidance, support, and decisive clinical leadership.

You'll be accountable for ensuring resources are managed effectively to support safe staffing levels, enhance patient outcomes, and uphold our commitment to compassionate, patient-centred care.

Main duties of the job

The role requires a high level of autonomy, clinical skills and expertise, and professional accountability, leading the delivery of safe, evidence-based community care to our patients across services

They are responsible for upholding and monitoring clinical standards, mentoring teams, supporting training and development, and embedding best practice across care pathways

A strong communicator, they manage complex information and foster partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

The Area Matron plays a key leadership role, deputising for the Head of Quality & Professions, driving service improvement, and promoting inclusive, compassionate leadership

They participate in audits, talent mapping, and safeguarding, ensuring compliance with statutory and governance requirements.

The role also includes active involvement in health and safety, equality, and risk management, while promoting a culture of continuous learning and high-quality, patient-centred care.

  • Nurse/AHP with 5 years or more experience in Community Care.
  • Highly developed specialist knowledge under pinned by theory and experience.
  • Post registration to master's level or equivalent experience.

  • Leadership and Management qualification or evidence
