Physiotherapy Technician / Associate Practitioner

We are looking for a Physiotherapy Technician/Associate Practitioner to join our Community Rehab Team. The successful applicant will work with patients at home across Portsmouth delivering rehabilitation. You will work with Physiotherapists and Physiotherapy Associate Practitioners and on your own.

Main duties of the job

  • To undertake specific skilled support work to aid the rehabilitation of patients primarily, frail older people.
  • To accept patients referred by a physiotherapist or at referral source according to specific protocols. Treat patients according to set treatment protocols monitoring patient progression, modifying and progressing patient treatment programmes as required and discharging patients or referring back to physiotherapist when goals have been achieved. Work unsupervised reporting back patient progress and informing physiotherapist of any problems.
  • Be responsible for non-professional duties in the provision of physiotherapy services within the designated clinical team including record keeping and monitoring of activity.
  • Monitor and order stock, mobility aids, supplies for department or team. Assess and prescribe mobility and ADL equipment as required.
  • To provide physiotherapy intervention as part of a specific patient treatment plan agreed and documented following assessment. Working without direct supervision of a physiotherapist.
  • To assist the physiotherapist in the provision of treatment programmes to patients within a designated clinical area. Monthly supervision or as required but can work independently.
  • Instruct patients and carers providing direction and guidance on a range of physical therapy and mobility activities, as part of own clinical work or as directed by the physiotherapist.

  • A Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care or a Physiotherapy-related field
  • or
  • A BSc in Physiotherapy / Occupational therapy
  • or
  • A level 4 or higher qualification in exercise provision with special populations
  • or
  • Postural Stability Instructor qualification
  • If you do not already hold one of these qualifications, you will be expected to demonstrate the willingness and ability to work towards a foundation degree in health and social care or Postural Stability instructor qualification and will be expected to be willing to commence this within 18 months of being in post. This willingness and ability is essential and some study will be expected within your own time when completing these qualifications.
