We are pleased to offer a 10PA Consultant Psychiatrist post as part of an exciting redesign of Older People's Mental Health (OPMH) services in Basingstoke. This includes the development of a Memory Assessment Service (MAS), a nursing home in-reach team, liaison services to the acute hospital, and inpatient care at Parklands Hospital. The team is now based at Parklands House, a newly refurbished, spacious facility designed to support growth and collaboration.
You will join a multidisciplinary team alongside 2 Consultant Psychiatrists, an Associate Specialist, 2 Specialty Doctors, and a Core Trainee, delivering community OPMH and MAS services. The wider service includes inpatient teams and liaison services supported by additional medical colleagues.
Your clinical work will focus on core community and complex functional patients, with some involvement in routine memory assessments. The role is aligned with local Primary Care Networks to improve integration with primary care and responsiveness to the local population.
You will undertake 7.5 PAs of Direct Clinical Care and 2.5 PAs of Supporting Activities. You'll be supported by a well-established MDT, including mental health nurses, psychologists, memory nurses, OTs, support workers, and admin staff.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership and Consultant input to the Older Persons Mental Health (OPMH) Community Psychiatry Team. The post involves outpatient clinics and occasional home visits. The Consultant will assess new complex cases personally and support other team members through supervision and case discussions.
The post holder will oversee the clinical management of patients via regular multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, promoting collaborative working and continuity of care. They will provide supervision and guidance to nursing staff, particularly in coordinating care for individuals with complex needs, and will promote active caseload management and the use of clinical outcome measures.
They will also attend Care Programme Approach (CPA) meetings, contribute to risk management plans, and undertake Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act assessments as needed. The Consultant will be available during working hours to offer timely clinical advice and support to the wider team, ensuring a responsive and supportive clinical environment.
This is a key leadership role within the community OPMH service, offering the opportunity to shape service delivery, contribute to quality improvement, and work closely with primary care and other stakeholders to deliver person-centred mental health care for older adults.
