Sexual Health Nurse

Job summary

We are looking for an experienced sexual health nurse to work as part of our team based in Basingstoke/Andover/Eastleigh.

The successful candidate will work Assess individual client needs and provide advice on all methods of Contraception and Sexual Health issues within a variety of settings, as directed by the management team. As part of the nursing team the jobholder works within standard operating procedures and will receive training to ensure evidence-based practices are followed. The post holder will issue first time and repeat hormonal and emergency contraception and treatment for sexually transmitted infections working to Patient Group Directions or as an independent prescriber.

We are a busy Level 3 integrated, open access Sexual Health Service covering Portsmouth, Southampton, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. We operate a hub and spoke model of care to provide screening, diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections. We are digitally innovative; patient focused and continually strive for service-wide quality improvement.

The post holder will have excellent communication skills, written and verbal. The jobholder can work collaboratively with colleagues across a range of agencies.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be dual trained to provide sexual health and contraceptive care to service users, working within a suite of Patient Group Directives or as an independent prescriber to issue medications.

They will work autonomously in accordance with nationally recognised and locally developed guidelines, and in partnership within the multidisciplinary team, supporting service improvements and innovations.

  • Training in Patient Group Directions for first time and repeat issuing of hormonal and emergency contraception and treatment of STIs or as an independent prescriber or willing to work towards.
  • Recognised post registration Teaching Qualification / Mentorship course at degree level or SLIP
  • DFSRH including LOC Implant insertion and removal

  • Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification
  • Intermediate STIF
