Job summary

We are looking for a band 6 Physiotherapist with specialist stroke skills to work within our Stroke Services across our Stroke Early Supported Discharge Team and Stroke Inpatients team on the Isle of Wight.

You will work as a Senior Physiotherapist within the Integrated Community Stroke Service and the Inpatient Stroke Unit, providing advanced patient assessment and therapeutic interventions for those patients admitted to the Service.

The aim of the role is to provide a physiotherapy service which will be integral to the Inpatient Stroke Unit and ICSS for the IOW and provide a seamless transition of care between Hospital and Stroke Early Supported Discharge Team.

We are looking for someone who can continually evaluate service provision, propose and carry out developments that will improve service delivery and patient care, acting as a resource and support to a wide range of other disciplines, agencies, and carers by providing knowledge and skills, including contribution to education and research programmes as required.

The role requires you to work flexibly over 7 days to meet service needs including bank holidays.

Provide high standard of physiotherapy across the stroke service, to manage caseload of patients with varying complex needs using evidence based patient centre principles to assess plan, implement and evaluate interventions in a defined clinical area.

Main duties of the job

To undertake a supporting role, in planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the Physiotherapy Service provided to clients within the service on a day-to-day basis.

To take an active role in the advanced assessment and treatment of patients within the Stroke Unit and ICSS who may have a complex presentation and determine if/what physiotherapy treatment is indicated and deliver an individualised treatment programme. To work as an autonomous practitioner ensuring that records are maintained and up to date in line with policy and governing body HCPC.

To independently supervise, teach and appraise junior Physiotherapists, Associate Practitioners, Physiotherapy students and other members of the multi-disciplinary team, as determined by the team leader and professional lead.

To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as a specialist autonomous.

To keep up to date with developments in stroke rehabilitation, undertaking audit to evaluate practice, and participating in research as appropriate.

To supervise, initiate and participate in evidence-based projects/audits and assist in implementing changes within designated team/area.

To represent Physiotherapy at MDT meetings.

To deputise for physiotherapy team leader in operational management.
