Job summary

We are looking to recruit enthusiastic and flexible Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (School Nurses) to the Andover and Winchester School Nursing team who enjoy the challenge of working with children and young people.

You will work from a variety of settings including schools, partner agencies and homes working flexibly and creatively to best engage and meet the diverse health needs of the 0-19 population.

Main duties of the job

You will lead the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme (DH 2009) within the locality and provide professional leadership to a skill mix team to enable the efficient and effective delivery of the commissioned service.

We are looking for someone with an inspirational and motivational personality and someone who is highly skilled in communication, with a strong approach to teamwork.

You will facilitate and deliver a range of assessments, brief interventions, proactive public health initiatives and work both independently and as part of a multi-agency team around the family.

You will be expected to demonstrate clinical expertise and governance in all aspects of safeguarding children whilst being supported by robust organisational supervision, guidelines, and policies.

Essential

  • Registered Nurse and/or Midwife
  • BSc, PGDip, Hons Public Health Specialist Practitioner (School Nursing) or equivalent (NMC Registered Part 3)
  • Full UK Driving Licence (and access to a car)

Desirable

  • Dual field registration (HV/SN)
  • Child Branch Registration or similar qualification
  • Mentorship qualification
  • Evidence of ongoing learning and professional development

Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge of and Delivery of the Healthy Child Programme (DH 2009)
  • Experience of clinical audit and risk assessments
  • Knowledge and understanding of Public Health and Health Promotion
  • Clinical governance frame work and CQC
  • Ability to work in partnership with CYP, families and colleagues in a range of health settings
  • Experience of working collaboratively with other agencies
  • Experience of appraisal and staff development.
  • Experience of effective time management
  • Experience of mentoring students
  • Effective negotiating and influencing skills.
