Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a clinical or counselling psychologist who is keen to work in community mental healthcare. The post may suit a newly qualified psychologist looking to develop into an 8A role via a preceptorship. In this case you would be appointed on Band 7 and progress towards Band 8A by completing a formal log of competencies, usually over a period of 18 --36 months (depending on experience already obtained). A preceptorship job description is available on request.
In this role, you will be based with Southampton Central CMHT at College Keep, where you will work alongside other psychological professionals including other psychologists and psychological therapists. The Central team is cohesive, experienced, friendly, and receptive to psychology input.
The Central Community Mental Health Team base is in a vibrant urban area and enjoys free parking. Flexible working arrangements are possible, including some remote working according to clinical need.
Main duties of the job
In this post, you will help develop, organise and deliver psychology services to the Southampton Central CMHT. Working alongside colleagues, you will provide specialist psychological assessments, formulations and interventions. You will offer consultation, supervision and training to staff within the multi-disciplinary team. You will also be involved in MDT meetings and complex case panels.
There will also be the opportunity to contribute to our group programme, which currently includes Compassion-Focused Therapy, Emotional Coping Skills, a bipolar group, and a full-package DBT programme. There is scope to further develop this group programme according to your interests.
You will be line managed by a clinical psychologist, and you will receive clinical supervision according to your model of practice and individual needs. You will be supported to develop your skills, including in supervision, and you will be encouraged to supervise at least one trainee psychologist.
You will join a psychology service with a wealth of clinical expertise including CBT, DBT, CAT, and EMDR. We are committed to supervision, CPD, and staff wellbeing. We support flexible working. We have strong links with the University of Southampton. We regularly take clinical psychology doctoral trainees and trainee psychological therapists on placement. We also host research-active clinical psychologists in the service. We are committed to equality of opportunity and keen to increase the diversity of our team.
