Job summary

Principal Duties of the Post

This post involves working within both the inpatient and outpatient settings, across the whole range of mental health services within the Trust.

This post involves working closely with a large multi-disciplinary team managing secondary care patients with mental illness.

The post holder provides medical support to the mental health team working under the supervision of a senior psychiatrist.

Practitioners should be prepared to perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances without additional remuneration but may be granted time off in lieu at the discretion of the Trust.

Commitments arising in such circumstances are, however, exceptional and practitioners should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.

Essential

  • Recognised basic Medical Degree.
  • Full GMC Registration with license to practice.

Desirable

  • MRCPsych.
  • Section 12(2) approved.

Experience

Essential

  • 4 years at full-time postgraduate training or higher or equivalent experience with at least 2 years in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty.
  • Previous experience of working in psychiatry.
  • Excellent knowledge in specialty.
  • Excellent clinical skills using biopsychosocial perspective and wide medical knowledge.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
  • Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others.
  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA.
  • Able to work cooperatively as part of a team, delegate appropriately and see tasks through to completion.

Desirable

  • Proven commitment to improving the quality of clinical care.
  • Experience of crisis, inpatient or community mental health team care for adults.
  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service.
  • Experience in liaison psychiatry or other acute psychiatry settings.
