Job summary

This role is to help provide leadership and oversight for psychological services across the Division.

The postholder will provide professional and operational line management supervision for psychology service leads within the Division and work closely with Division's triumvirate and senior leadership team to ensure psychological thinking and trauma informed principles and practice are embedded across the Division. They will ensure psychological profession have a voice and representation at the most senior level within the PSEH geographical Division.

They will report professionally to Trust Chief Psychological Profession Officer (CPPO) and work closely with them, and other psychological divisional directors, to help achieve Trust's objectives arounds psychological services. The role will ensure psychological pathways are informed by latest evidence based and cutting-edge therapies, and staff are trained to national standards to provide effective care. The postholder will be responsible for ensuring better integration across the psychological pathways across the Division in line with NHS long term plan objectives.

This is a role for suitable qualified and existing consultant psychologists, operating as a head of service or department within the organisation.

Main duties of the job

To provide clinical and overall governance responsibility of the psychological practice across the division

To ensure the systematic provision of high quality and highly specialist Psychological Services to the Division, this includes community patients and their families, with other clinical work organised according to service needs, across the Division. This may also include assessment and consultation to external NHS or other non-health agencies.

As part of the Divisional Directorate Senior Leadership Team, together with senior colleagues, to lead on service development and service quality and performance issues across the Division including, but not limited to, Psychological Services. To direct the Division by contributing to operational and strategic decisions.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist
  • Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialist areas of Psychological practice.

Desirable

  • Management and/or leadership training.

Experience

Essential

  • *Highly experienced in working as a qualified Psychologist for a substantial period, with significant post qualification experience within the designated specialty where the post is located
  • *Experience of development of psychological services and long term strategic planning across service line
  • *Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the adult mental health including community, outpatient and specialist settings relevant to the role
  • *Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity
  • *Experience of professional management of qualified psychological professions including line management, recruitment, workload allocation, appraisal and CPD
  • *Experience of providing clinical supervision and supervision of supervision to highly trained and experienced psychological therapists and mental health clinicians
  • *Experience of the application of psychology therapies in face challenging complexities and in different settings and cultural contexts
  • *Experience of providing effective strategic professional leadership with a significant breadth of responsibility for psychological services across one or more organisation
  • *Experience of delivering quality improvements projects
  • *Experience in teaching and training of trainee and post-qualification psychological therapists, and of non- psychological staff
