Job summary

Are you passionate about supporting children's mental health and emotional well-being? We are seeking a dedicated Therapeutic Practitioner to join a collaborative partnership between the NHS and Southampton City Council. As a Therapeutic Practitioner, you will provide high-quality mental health and emotional support to children and young people, working in a multidisciplinary team alongside NHS professionals and council services. Your expertise will help children build resilience, improve emotional regulation, and overcome challenges, empowering them to thrive in their daily lives.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

* Provide therapeutic support to children and young people with emotional and mental health needs.

* Use evidence-based therapeutic techniques, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Play Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy.

* Work collaboratively with schools, families, and other professionals to create tailored care plans.

* Offer individual and group therapy sessions to address a range of emotional and psychological difficulties.

* Contribute to the development of resources to promote mental health awareness and early intervention strategies.

Ideal Candidate:

* Knowledge of child development, mental health conditions, and emotional well-being strategies.

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and empathetic approach.

* Ability to work within a team, but also independently.

Nationally recognised core qualification and registration
Professional Qualification at degree level or equivalent

Desirable

Completion of further post qualification specialist training at post graduate level or equivalent experience, i.e. DBT, CBT

Experience

Essential

Experience of specialist mental health assessment and treatment of children and adolescents and their families/carers where appropriate as a full member of a multi-disciplinary team located in community, primary care, outpatients, or inpatient settings.
Experience of working with a wide variety of children, adolescents and their families/carers across the whole range and presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
Post qualifying experience of working as a specialist mental health worker within a mental health setting.
Experience of writing and delivering complex and robust risk assessment and risk management plans and leading on their delivery.

Desirable

Experience of teaching and or training other professionals.
Experience of working in residential settings.
