Job summary
To support the delivery of the School Aged Immunisation programme within Southampton, Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight.
The School Age Immunisation (SAI) Service is commissioned to deliver vaccinations to all school age children and young people in the operational area. This includes children at mainstream school, special schools, home educated, other educational facilities and those who are not in education. We work closely with schools, local authorities and other health services to deliver the immunisation programmes.
Main duties of the job
To undertake the required immunisation training programme.
Working with the immunisation programme co-ordinator to plan programme of work.
To be responsible for the delivery of the immunisation programme in school.
To actively support the increase of uptake across the SAI schedule.
Provide information and education to young people, parents and staff to ensure informed consent for immunisations, some of who may have communication difficulties or English may not be their first language.
Raise awareness of the need for vaccination against preventable diseases through education of young people. Be responsible in organising the delivery in school sessions.
Ensure all data relating to immunising is completed and processed correctly according to National and Local policy.
Provide information, advice, and support on emotional and personal problems to young people and staff if required to do so.
Identify children as appropriate who require a follow up by the school nurse service.
To ensure that regular clinical supervision is given to support the school nurse admin assistants, to review work with the children/families.
Undertake home visits to complete immunisations where appropriate.
Work within the scope of their professional code of practice.
Attend mandatory and professional specific training and keep updated with advances and research in nursing and related matters.
Comply with and implement National /Regional / District policies and standards for delivering SAI.
