Job summary
Can you positively influence and improve the quality of nursing practice and the learning environment by providing support, supervision, educational and professional development opportunities for all nursing staff within the practice setting. The post holder will act as a positive professional role model in promoting clinical excellence and offer expert professional development advice, maintaining high levels of clinical excellence and ensuring positive attitudes are always consistent and promoted. The post holder will be providing high quality evidence based clinical education and training sessions, promoting and developing educational standards within the Service, working to improve nursing practice with staff at bands 2 - 6, including newly qualified staff going through Preceptorship and a number of skilled mentors and preceptors. The post holder will be involved in the delivery of clinical education and support assessment of learners in practice. They will also support the assessment of clinical competence of staff.
The post holder will be working closely with Ward Managers, working with very minimal supervision, identifying opportunities for development in practice. The post holder will be designing educational programmes to meet identified need and evaluating the success of these. They are a change agent with the rest of senior team in the service, taking forward the strategy, standards and shaping the future of nursing practice, within the Mental Health Services.
Main duties of the job
The Orchards Unit forms part of the Acute Care Pathway, with two adult mental health wards - Hawthorn Ward (Acute Admission) and Maples Ward (Psychiatric Intensive Care). The Orchards team primarily cares for working age adults (18-65 years, however do operate an ageless service depending on their needs), who require an admission to hospital for a period of assessment of and/or treatment for a mental illness, and are unable to be safely managed in the community.
