Job summary
The Children's Occupational Therapy team is excited to offer the opportunity for a full time clinical Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our team on a permanent contract. Our team is based at St Mary's Hospital in Newport and provides occupational therapy for children on the island who have functional difficulties affecting their self-care, leisure and learning skills.
This is the chance for an innovative individual, with an interest/experience of working with children or in an Occupational Therapy setting. This post will help develop your knowledge, experience and skills in child development, ASC and physical disability. The post also involves assisting the Team lead occupational therapist with management of the newly established Assessment Clinic and the waiting list for therapy.
In the role you will have the opportunity to use your enthusiasm and skills to work directly with children and their families in different settings e.g. home, school, nursery or children's therapy clinic to carry out specific treatment programmes or tailored interventions. You will need to develop rapport with children, their family and carers and the wider multidisciplinary team, to ensure achievement of interventions to promote independence and well-being.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will need:
- To work flexibly as a member of the Paediatric Occupational Therapy team, working with children and their family or carers referred to the paediatric service under the supervision of Occupational Therapists. This will regularly be without direct supervision
- To act as an autonomous assistant, working in homes, clinics, community and educational facilities as well as central base.
- To undertake administrative duties to support the clinical practice of staff within the area of work
- To contribute to the development of effective and efficient team work in the delivery of care
- Maintain concise and accurate contemporaneous records and complete other associated administrative tasks. To be proficient in the use of computer software systems utilised by the Occupational Therapy service
The service provides an excellent clinical supervision programme, valuable developmental opportunities including in-service training, shadowing and, if appropriate, access to external training.
