Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust Community Urology and Stoma Appliance Prescribing Service.

We are seeking to recruit 2 full-time (37.5 hours) Band 6 Nurse Specialists to advise on catheter and stoma products as well as their related items. The roles will cover the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Trust area.

The role requires specific knowledge of continence and stoma appliances experience in this is desirable. Ideally having knowledge around the use of urinary catheters is advantageous, however, training can be given. The candidate will be able to identify those patients at risk of requiring medical intervention and the relevance of the requested products. The aim of the service is to provide clinical support to patients and carers and provide support and information to other health care professionals and advise on appropriate appliance usage. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching ISC to patients in their own home.

They will be accountable for their clinical decision making in relation to the care and prescribing of catheters and stomas. All decisions will be made in line with best practice.

The post holder will work closely with the other Advanced Nurse Specialists and Prescription Co-ordinators, to continually develop the service within relevant NMC, DOH, RCN and NICE guidance.

Main duties of the job

a)The CUSP Community Sister ISC Advisor will have responsibility for teaching patients how to use Intermittent Self Catheterisation (ISC) providing evidence-based education and advice to patients and their carers.

b)To deputise in the absence of Band 7.

c)To give advice and support to patients who are living with indwelling urinary catheters,

The role requires knowledge of continence and decision making in relation to urinary catheterisation and being able to identify those patients at risk of requiring medical intervention. Specific knowledge would be advantageous however training will be given for the right candidate.

The postholder will be accountable for clinical decision making in relation to catheterisation, associated care for both indwelling and intermittent catheter techniques and procedures and best practice, whilst utilising SHFT CUSAP formulary.

Alongside the Clinical Nurse Specialists, the postholder will support the team and its development working within relevant NMC, DOH, RCN and NICE guidance.
