Job summary
We are looking for a dedicated Mental Health Support Worker to join our supportive multi-disciplinary Team within Seagrove Ward. This work can be exciting, challenging and rewarding. The team are looking for someone who is compassionate, caring, able to take direction. This is an exciting role which will primarily be based within a team in the Health Based Place of Safety at Sevenacres, providing support to service users who have been detained by the Police under Section 136. This role is advertised at 15 hours.
When you are not in the 136 suite you will be asked to provide support to any of the three wards within Sevenacres, Seagrove Ward is a six-bed mixed sex Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Osborne Ward is a 16 mixed sex acute admissions ward and Afton Ward is a 8 bedded mixed sex Dementia and functional ward.
You will receive a full induction to all ward areas, regular supervision, and opportunities for continuing professional development. All relevant mandatory training will also be provided.
The right candidate will be imaginative, enthusiastic and be able to demonstrate excellent de-escalation skills. We provide a 24-hour service therefore successful candidates will be expected to work across shift patterns.
Main duties of the job
To be responsible for providing the highest quality of care for people with suspected or confirmed mental ill health under the supervision of qualified staff.
To work effectively as part of a team.
To work closely with colleagues within Mental Health Service as a whole, and across other services as required.
To work with colleagues to manage people with complex needs and high levels of dependency.
Under the supervision of registered staff, to undertake nursing needs assessments and reviews as requested.
The post holder will be expected to work alongside other staff to share and promote good practice.
To contribute to service improvements relating to mental ill health, in line with both the local and national modernisation agenda.
The post holder will be required to undertake training in the management of violence and aggression and will require a level of physical fitness in order to complete this.
