Job summary

Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust provide clinical pharmacy services to both Mental Health and Physical Health wards across Hampshire as part of a friendly and supportive team of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.

This role will be based at Lymington New Forest Hospital and will provide pharmacy services to the five physical health inpatient wards including a stroke rehabilitation unit and medical admissions unit, an outlying medical rehabilitation unit, and a hospice, as well as the departments and outpatient clinics that are run from the site.

Staff parking is free and on site.

The Southern Health Lymington Pharmacy team are NOT contracted to fulfil:

Main duties of the job

The role of the Senior Medicines Management Assistant is to perform pharmaceutical duties in accordance with set procedures and under supervision at Lymington Hospital. This post involves providing a ward stock top up service, dispensing inpatient, outpatient, and discharge medications, and controlled drugs, labelling medications using the pharmacy IT system, assessing, and relabelling patients own drugs, stock control, stock rotation, ordering medication via a purchase order, goods receipt, and invoicing.

All staff have access to regular clinical supervision as well as regular group reflective practice and training opportunities to ensure continuing professional development and role enhancement.

This post is a valued part of the team, and you will have the opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary team to support patient care from admission to discharge.

Our medicines management team have experience of a range of sectors including Acute Hospital, Community and Prison Services. We can provide training and support as appropriate. We welcome applicants from all sectors of Pharmacy and conversations around flexible or part-time working.

Essential

  • Level 2 NVQ in Pharmacy Services or equivalent on the job experience
  • 4 or more GCSE passes (C grade or equivalent) to include English and Maths (or suitable equivalent)

Desirable

  • GCSE passes in chemistry and biology

Experience

Essential

  • Working as part of a team
  • Extensive dispensing experience
  • Pharmacy stock control experience

Desirable

  • Experience in assessing patients own drugs for re-use
  • Hospital pharmacy experience
  • Experience of audit using standard templates

  • Common sense, logical, practical thinker
  • Able to work effectively under pressure and meet agreed deadlines
  • Pleasant personality and able to work effectively as part of a team
