Job summary
Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust delivering care on the Isle of Wight is delighted to be able to offer a Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship in three fields of nursing namely Adult, Mental Health & Learning Disability.
This opportunity is in collaboration with the Open University.
Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeships will be available across our Community, Mental Health, and Learning Disability clinical services, starting February 2025. The duration of the course is 3 years and is a balance of theory and practice, delivered through a combination of practice-based and distance learning modules.
You will receive a training salary during your 3 year training programme starting at 23,713 pa, rising incrementally each year. Once qualified the starting salary will be the bottom of Band 5 which is currently 29,969 pa (based on 2024/25 pay scales).
Upon successful completion of the programme, the Registered Nurse Degree Apprentice will become a Registered Nurse, accountable to the Nursing and Midwifery Council and Code (NMC). They will be equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes, and behaviours relevant to employment as a Registered Nurse.
A substantive Registered Nurse post within our Community or MHLD Services will be offered upon successful completion of the apprenticeship programme.

Main duties of the job
You will work towards becoming a Registered Nurse through successful completion of the Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship programme. Upon successful completion, this will include the attainment of a BSc(Hons) in your chosen field of Nursing.
The RN Degree Apprenticeship training programme combines and integrates both academic and work-based learning through close collaboration between employers and education providers. A RN Degree Apprentice will be employed by the Trust but will work in a wide range of clinical placement settings in order that they gain a wide appreciation of many health and care contexts and are able to fulfil all the requirements of the programme.
Deliver high quality, compassionate care under the direction of a registered nurse (or other registered care professional) with a focus on promoting health and independence.
Have proficient attitudes and behaviours compatible with NHS Values.
Work as part of a designated clinical and care team delivering care that focuses on the direct needs of the individual.
Carry out specific delegated clinical and care tasks and responsibilities to a high standard and competency, under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or other registered care professional's dependent on setting.
