Job summary

We are looking for a highly motivated, committed and service focused individual to head up our on-site catering teams at the Tatchbury Mount site near Totton, Southampton. This includes a hands on approach and we would be looking for someone who can lead, mentor and develop the teams across the site.

You will be responsible for the day to day delivery of a catering service to a number of different patient groups from our young adolescent unit adult mental health units, providing 3 meals a day.

The Catering Service is provided across 5 locations within the Tatchbury Hospital complex. The site has the Specialist and Learning Disability Services in 4 hospitals all with their own catering facility with numbers ranging from 10 beds up to 26 beds.

The site has a small retail outlet providing a caf service and takeaway. There is also a requirement from any one of the kitchens to supply functions, buffets, and special events.

To reward the hard work and dedication to our patients and service users, we offer a competitive salary and a very generous holiday package with new starters receiving 27 days holiday + bank holidays in the first year and increasing with the length of service.

There is a very good pension scheme offered and many other staff benefits such as NHS discount card which is available to all employees.

If you require more information about this role please contact Steve Fullwood, Deputy Support Services Manager and Catering Co-ordinator.

Main duties of the job

The post holder would be responsible for the day to day supervision of the various staff working across the site, the daily clerical duties which include maintaining all relevant due diligence documentation, ordering, staff training, client and customer liaison and stock and cash controls.

The successful applicant should have experience of working in a large catering operation and be comfortable with the supervisor of staff and the facilities.

The vacancy is for 37.5 hours per week; the post is for 5 over 7 days including early and late shifts and weekends as rostered.

You will be working alongside your other staff but also on occasions be required to work on your own. We are looking for someone who can be flexible and who will ensure the site is always covered and services provided.

As the site supervisor, you must be able to prioritise your work in order to meet deadlines and have a customer focused approach. Previous experience of working within a similar environment or the NHS is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.

The working days for the department starts at 07:00 and finishes at 19:00 so, although there is a requirement to work shifts, these are not late into the evening or early in the morning.

About us

Southern Health is one of the largest NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK, specialising in mental health and learning disabilities, as well as offering physical health community-based services.

With a workforce of more than 7000 and a footprint that spans more than 200 sites across Hampshire, we're wholeheartedly committed to providing the best possible healthcare, reaching a range of diverse communities, whilst placing patients and staff at the forefront of all our endeavours.

We are currently working closely with other NHS Trusts to integrate all our collective community, mental health, and learning disability services. Our new organisation, to be known as Hampshire and Isle of Wight NHS Foundation Trust, is set to launch in July 2024.

The transformation will happen in staggered stages; Hampshire CAMHS, part of Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust joined Southern Health in February 2024, with Isle of Wight NHS Trust mental health and community services transitioning in early May 2024. The final combination of Southern Health and Solent Trusts is anticipated to occur in July 2024, when the new organisation will be formed.

Our new Trust will continue to cater to the unique needs of different communities, making healthcare across the county more accessible, as well as offering staff more opportunities for career development, training and partnership working.

Join us as we embark on this exciting journey to shape the future of healthcare in Hampshire.
