Job summary
This is an opportunity for an experienced Clinical Trial Co Ordinator to work within a well established, busy, multidisciplinary team at the Memory Assessment and Research Centre (MARC), Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust (SHFT).
The post holder will work with clinicians and specialists recruiting patients to clinical trials and other NIHR research studies. They will take responsibility for the co-ordination and management of clinical research projects in Mild Cognitive Impairment and dementia and will collaborate with key personnel throughout the NHS and Sponsor organisations to ensure continued care and support for patients and carer participants.
The post holder may be required to take responsibility for the safe monitoring of expected and unexpected side effects of investigational drugs and will be expected to have sufficient skills to enable patients to make informed choices concerning their involvement in the clinical trials by providing advice and information and acting as the patients advocate.
MARC is part of the Research and Innovation department at SHFT and is an experienced and supportive team that conducts commercial and academic dementia research, from observational, non-interventional studies to complex drug trials.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will screen and identify patients eligible for clinical trials and maintain detailed knowledge of the protocols associated with this patient group.
They will provide verbal and written information and offer support to patients with Mild Cognitive Impairment or Dementia and their carers.
They will be the point of contact for patients and carers for the duration of their involvement in a clinical trial.
The post holder will work as part of the multidisciplinary team and maintain excellent links with health care professionals for clinical trial patients and provide educational resource as necessary.
They will always work according to regulations as described in ICH Good Clinical Practice and EU Directives, and to the most current guidance relating to Research Governance and Research Ethics within the NHS Trust.
The successful candidate will also undertake psychometric cognitive assessments with trial participants and specified carer interviews.
The post holder will give specialist dementia advice and specific research information to health professional colleagues, potential participants and their carers and will maintain good links with associated Sponsor companies.
The post holder will have the ability to work autonomously, be computer literate and produce work to a high standard of accuracy, quality, and presentation.
