Job summary

To provide physical and psychological care to service users in accordance with the specified plan of clinical care.

To carry out duties as designated by the person in charge

Main duties of the job

To observe report and record changes in the clients physical, mental health and behaviorTo provide care for clients as planned in Multi disciplinary Team (MDT) meetingsTo be aware of and work to the principles of the Mental Health Act (MHA)To provide the necessary physical care to clients to help them complete daily living activities, personal hygiene, diet and fluid intake, clothing and laundry, personal environment, elimination, maintaining rest and sleep and activity, physical observationsTo act in a manner to respect the customs, individuality, values, sexuality and spiritual beliefs, activity, supporting the individual to fulfil theseTo provide social activities, emotional support and stability to clients to ensure effective engagement whilst maintaining professional boundariesTo provide escort duties to the client under the direction of the nurse in chargeTo undertake prescribed physical l observations as follows: blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respirations, blood sugars, urinalysis, weight and height and report results to the nurse in chargeTo have knowledge of risk assessment and management tools currently in use within the service and to provide care for service users within those guidelinesTo recognize potential crisis situations and act responsively and responsibly until assistance arrivesTo take all possible precautions to safeguard the welfare and safety of staff, service users, visitors and the public, by implementing all policies related to health, safety and risk

Snowdrop Ward is a modern newly refurbished 14 bedded ward based at Melbury lodge in Winchester which provides assessment & nursing care for older persons with acute mental health difficulties. We are committed to providing an exceptional standard of treatment & patient centred care for our service users in a safe, cooperative & therapeutic environment.Our multi-disciplinary team includes Medics, Nurses, Therapists & Therapy technicians, Pharmacists & Pharmacy technicians, Health care support workers, Recovery workers & Social workers all working to provide the best possible care & aid people in their recovery.We are currently looking for a band 2 Health care support worker to join our established & supportive multi-disciplinary team. If you are highly motivated, enthusiastic, flexible & resourceful with a commitment to providing support and assistance to people in their recovery we want to meet you!The post will involve supporting the qualified Nurses in providing effective mental & physical health care for older people.
