Job summary
On 1 April 2024, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust will come into being. This new organisation will bring together services that are currently provided in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight by Solent NHS Trust, Isle of Wight NHS Trust, Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, and Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
Directly accountable to the Chief Executive, the Chief Nursing Officer and Director of Allied Health Professions (CNO) will provide highly visible and effective leadership in ensuring that all members of our nursing, allied health, and non-registered clinical teams feel supported, equipped, and empowered to consistently deliver safe, high quality, compassionate, person-centred care for the communities served by the Foundation Trust. The post holder will provide expert advice and assurance to the Foundation Trust Board on issues relating to nursing, clinical governance, professional standards, patient safety, and safeguarding.
Main duties of the job
Acting as a role model for the organisation's values, behaviours, and professional standards, and for embedding our commitment to establishing and maintaining a culture of continuous quality improvement, the CNO will need to effectively engage with a range of partners, both internally and externally. As we move to integrate health and mental health services at Place, a key requirement is for the CNO is to be able to apply a deep understanding of leading complex mental health systems, with respect to the quality and safety of services, and the motivation and professional leadership of our clinical teams.
This calls for an individual who is highly collaborative in developing and maintaining mature relationships, and to apply their considerable personal influence and demonstrable leadership skills to engage, align, and inspire teams, sustain momentum, and thereby ensure success. Effective leadership of the new Foundation Trust will require the full commitment and ability of all executive directors to create an environment of trust, inclusion, mutual respect, and shared aspiration, in which our people can contribute fully and openly to achieving collective goals.
About us
We are on target to deliver a single provider Foundation Trust for most community and mental health services, and we are a major partner with and provider of Primary Care for a population of nearly two million people.
We are at the heart of developing the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care System (ICS), taking a strategic approach to delivering and transforming healthcare for our local population. We are also focused on 'Place' based delivery by building effective relationships with all our partners, third sector colleagues, and the many different communities we serve.
In providing county-wide health services, we work closely with three local authorities, four acute foundation trusts and three universities. The increasingly closer alignment of health and care, both nationally and locally, offers real opportunities for the new Foundation Trust to innovate in the transformation of healthcare provision and therefore in improving people's wellbeing. A central tenet of what we do is to work in partnership with the people who use our services, their carers, and their families, such that their views, experiences, and particular needs inform our decision-making and actions.
