Job summary

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated Assistant Psychologist to join our Clinical Health Psychology Service.

The post will work alongside Clinical Psychologists and Psychological Therapists working into Haematology Services in University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. The psychologists are core team members and offer psychological care that is integrated into the care offered to patients by the medical multidisciplinary team.

You will need to be keen to work flexibly within a medical Multidisciplinary Team and have well developed interpersonal skills. You will need to be able to work with people who are sometimes quite physically unwell and be able to reflect on how you manage this.

As this is a senior Band 5 Assistant Psychologist role, applicants MUST have experience of working as a paid assistant psychologist or PWP, and preferably have some experience of working with issues connected to physical health. The hospital is a busy and vibrant setting to work in but also demands the ability to work flexibly and responsively. Your work will involve hybrid working.

Main duties of the job

Your role is to work alongside the psychologists to develop processes and interventions to enhance wellbeing, for patients and team members. Within the Haematology service, you will work within the Bone Marrow Transplant team and CAR-T service on projects, including the provision of screening across the transplant pathway and prehab for CAR-T.

As a part of this work, you will be evaluating interventions and assisting in some clinically relevant administration tasks. The work will involve working with patients directly and you will hold a small case load whilst being supported and supervised by the team psychologists.

The post will be managed and supervised by a psychologist or psychological therapist and will be supported by other psychologists working into the wider hospital. Within Clinical Health Psychology nationally, there are active interest groups and you will be encouraged to make connections with other national and regional centres to develop best practice within the hospital, make links with external stake holders and actively participate with the broader network. You will also be encouraged to make contact with other Assistant Psychologists within the hospital and join in with continuing professional development activity.
