Job summary

This is an exciting post offering psychological services for both the Adult and Older Adult Liaison Psychiatry Services. This role works clinically into the two liaison teams and be supported and managed be the Band 8b Liaison Psychologist and the Consultant Lead Clinical Psychologist UHS Adult Psychology. The liaison teams operate a CORE 24 service for people over 18 years old within University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust.

You will link with departments within the hospital and the community teams as well other Psychologists who work specifically into different medical disciplines within the hospital.

Within the departments there is a keen interest in developing and sharing knowledge. We have active interests in Systemic, Acceptance and Commitment, Cognitive Analytic Therapy and EMDR therapeutic approaches. Funded training opportunities are available to all team Psychologists; recently these have included EMDR, ACT and CAT.

Main duties of the job

We have close links with Southampton University where there is an established Clinical Psychology training course and many psychologists teach on the systemic and health modules. There are also specialist courses in Health Psychology and a research group focusing on the applications of Health Psychology.

The postholder will work with the liaison team to provide a psychological service for the team, medical colleagues and families. They will offer assessment and short term interventions to patients and supervision, consultation, and training to medical and liaison colleagues. Currently the team are linking to national projects to offer short term interventions within A & E.

At this point, there no outpatient follow-up within liaison. If the post holder wishes, there may be opportunities to pick up some therapy work either within community mental health services or health psychology.

Postholders will connect to the wider UHS Adult Psychology team and Southampton Psychology Service.

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in applied psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • Formal training in supervision of other psychologists or equivalent experience
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist
