Psychologist - Southern Gambling Service
Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust

Job summary
Would you like to be part of a new and innovative gambling service?
The Southern Gambling Service is one of the first of fourteen specialist services that treat people with gambling problems.
You would be part of a growing multi-disciplinary team comprising of psychiatrists, psychologists, trainee clinical associate psychologists and peer support workers. The Service also provides placements for trainee psychiatrists and psychologists. Opportunities for research are available and the team has strong links with the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Southampton and the University of Chicago.
We are looking to expand our team of psychologists and this post would suit a clinical or counselling psychologist with experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams.
Main duties of the job
Previous experience working with people with substance misuse or eating disorders is not essential; candidates should demonstrate sound formulation and treatment planning skills with adults experiencing 'common mental health' difficulties. They should also be familiar with recovery-oriented treatment models and able to engage individuals for whom shame, guilt and remorse are obstacles to seeking help.
Given the large geographic reach of the Service, the team operates as a 'virtual' team and, as such, the post holder will be expected to work predominantly remotely. However, monthly 'in-person' psychology team meetings will occur at one of the Trusts locations within Hampshire to maintain team cohesion. (Travel to Hampshire to complete certain mandatory training will also be necessary).
Main Duties of the Job
The responsibilities will include providing initial assessments of referrals to the service, and psychological assessments of co-occurring mental health issues. Providing evidence-based psychological therapy, and liaising with partner adult mental health services are also part of the role. Providing informal teaching and consultation within the Service and to external agencies is also expected. Successful candidates will contribute to the supervision of junior doctors, assistant psychologists, trainee Clinical Associate Psychologists and trainee psychologists.
