Mental Health Nurse

Job summary

We have four acute wards here in Melbury Lodge:-

*Two adult acute wards:-

Sherwood Ward, for adult males, with 12 beds.

Rosemary Ward, for adult females, with 12 beds.

One swing bed available for either male and female patients.

*We have Snowdrop Ward for older persons. This is a functional ward for patients over 65 who are suffering acutely with their mental health.

*We have Clover Ward, which is a specialist ward for mothers and their babies.

We are offering a unique opportunity for you to experience two years on all of our wards, rotating every six months. At the end of the two years, we will support you in the pathway of the career you would like to specialise in. You will have a supervisor on each ward, but also the opportunity for one to one coaching sessions with the Matron and Ward Managers.

As a preceptee this would be an opportunity to gain a global picture of the acute care provided to adults, older persons and mothers and their babies.

We deliver care and treatment to service users across Hampshire who are experiencing an acute mental health crisis, and requiring a short period of hospital care to support their recovery.

Melbury Lodge is based in Winchester, and is located close to the Solent Coast and the beautiful New Forest National Park. We have excellent transportation links, either by rail which goes direct to Waterloo Station, and by road, the M3 and M27.

Main duties of the job

To assess, plan, implement and evaluate the nursing care needs of a specific group of service users.

To supervise, mentor and teach qualified and unqualified staff, including students.

To co-ordinate the patient environment on a shift by shift basis.

To co-ordinate care for a specified group of service users.
