Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new Consultant position in Perinatal Psychiatry to join the highly regarded Southern Health perinatal service. The position will join an existing team of perinatal specialist psychiatric consultants working alongside a multi professional group of staff including psychologists, nurses, nursery nurses, social workers, occupational therapists.
This Southern Health perinatal service covers community care across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and also an 8 bedded specialist inpatient mother and baby unit at Melbury Lodge, Winchester.
The post holder will be expected to work flexibly across the service, based from Melbury with a primary focus on supporting the community team with women living in the Portsmouth and the East of Hampshire.
The post holder will be a senior clinician, carrying out assessments of women's mental health, mother infant relationships and related risks, bio-psycho-social diagnostic formulations, exploration of prevention, treatment and care options, clear communication and shared decision making with patients (and families as appropriate), communication and joint planning with other professionals and agencies by the most effective means, use of appropriate legal statutes and powers where necessary for good patient care.
Main duties of the job
CLINICAL DUTIES
The Perinatal Mental Health Team is divided into 3 geographical areas: 1. North Hampshire, North East Hampshire and Farnham 2. Southampton and West Hampshire and 3. East Hampshire, Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight. All consultants share medical responsibility for the provision of high quality clinical care across the Perinatal Service, including:
Give Consultant Psychiatrist input to the Perinatal Service's patients in both community (including outpatients, domiciliary care, consultations in maternity service settings) and inpatient settings (for annual and study leave cover) and in line with the agreed job plan (see 4 below). This includes assessments of women's mental health and mother infant relationships and related risks, bio-psycho-social diagnostic formulations, exploration of prevention, treatment and care options, clear communication and shared decision making with patients (and families as appropriate), communication and joint planning with other professionals and agencies by the most effective means, use of appropriate legal statutes and powers where necessary for good patient care.
Ensure that care provided is in line with vision and values of the service for patient
Provide regular clinical supervision to junior doctors that are working or training in the service
Actively contribute to quality improvement activities in the Service. This includes supporting or supervising others, completing projects, audits and quality improvement initiatives
