Job summary

Due to the recent expansion and development of the UTC's service here in Petersfield we are looking to recruit another nurse or paramedic to join and compliment our Junior Practitioner team.

We are a practitioner led service, supported by remote GP's, offering treatment for both minor injury and minor illness. The UTC is open 08:00 -- 20:00 hours, 365 days a year.

The Junior Practitioner role is aimed at those Practitioners who have recently qualified or experienced nurses / paramedics who want to work towards becoming trained Practitioners. The role will predominantly be that of 'see and treat'. Following training and working within individual scope of practice and guidelines, the successful candidate will see, assess, diagnose, treat and discharge patients attending with the more minor injuries and illnesses. Practical skill in wound care, wound closure and plastering would be an advantage.

The successful applicant must be a registered nurse or paramedic with at least two years emergency department experience, paramedic experience, primary care experience or unscheduled care experience. They must have completed a course in History Taking and Physical Assessment in Clinical Practice (or equivalent).

Candidates must demonstrate a good understanding and implementation of Governance, both clinical and information. They must be fully compliant and competent with safeguarding policies and procedures.

Main duties of the job

*To provide professional, high quality care to patients and their families throughout their time in the UTC by supporting the nurse / paramedic practitioners in the delivery of direct patient care.

*To provide safe and effective assessment, diagnosis, treatment and discharge for patients attending the department, in line with national and local guidelines and pathways.

*To contribute to the development and evaluation of clinical practice within the UTC.

*To contribute to the smooth running of the department.
