Job summary

We are looking to recruit a Creative Therapist (music, drama) to work within a 14-bedded low secure inpatient unit for adolescents, which is part of the Specialist Services directorate of Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust. The post (0.4 wte) provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of a comprehensive and high-quality service for young people aged 12-18 years experiencing a range of complex presenting problems.

Austen House sits alongside well-established medium secure and general adolescent units at Bluebird and Leigh House, respectively. The role may involve flexible working across sites to provide a creative therapies service that is offered within the unit or on an outreach basis, according to clinical need.

The post offers close multi-agency and multi-disciplinary working within a team comprising of Psychology, Family Therapy, Creative/Art Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Social Work, Education and Nursing. The role will involve the use of specialist assessment and intervention skills to provide a creative therapies service to young people and their caregivers. In addition to the delivery of individual and group therapeutic work, the role will involve the promotion of a psychologically-informed environment employing attachment theory and developmental perspectives.

The post is graded at Band 7 but welcome newly qualified therapists with a view to starting at band 6, subsequently achieving band 7 following review.

  • Met conditions of full membership Professional Association (British Association for Music Therapy (BAMT), British Association of Drama therapists (BADth).

  • Post-graduate training in one or more additional specialised areas of practice.

Experience
