We are excited to announce the development of our paediatric department with the extension of our Tier 2 (Senior Clinical Fellow) rota. We are seeking to employ 3 full-time Paediatric Senior Clinical Fellow. The Senior Clinical Fellow role provides an excellent opportunity for a paediatric trained doctor (ST3 or above) to maintain their clinical skills caring for children, young people and neonates in a ward environment and to gain experience of paediatric sub-specialities in a District General Hospital.
This unit has a long history of supporting and nurturing doctors including those from overseas to help them achieve their career goals.
All principal duties will be undertaken under the direct supervision of the Consultant and the wider Paediatric Team.
These positions are based at Ormskirk District General Hospital.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will participate in a 1:11 on call rota at ST3+ level. This is equivalent to Tier 2 level (previously known as Registrar or Middle grade, now known as a Senior Clinical Fellow).
The Paediatric Department includes the dedicated Children's Accident & Emergency Department with a 4 bedded Assessment Bay, a 17 -bedded in-patient ward and a 6-bed day case unit including facilities for adolescents. There is a designated Modern Paediatric Outpatient Department at Ormskirk Hospital.
The paediatric ward is responsible for providing 24 hours emergency admission facility to the children of the district along with routine planned admissions and day cases.
The Neonatal Unit has 12 cots including one for Intensive Care (Level 2) with more room for expansion if needed. The current number of deliveries is around 3,100 per annum, The Neonatal Unit is part of the Cheshire and Mersey Neonatal Intensive Care Network.
The emergency department sees approximately 28,000 patients a year. There is a dedicated Paediatric Emergency Medicine Consultant with additional consultant cover provided by the general Emergency Medicine Consultants.
