Job summary

This new post will provide consultant leadership to 2 multi-disciplinary community mental health teams for older people living in Hambleton & Richmondshire and East Harrogate areas of North Yorkshire.

The Trust provides a range of mental health and learning disability services to the 2 million people living in County Durham, Darlington, Teesside, North Yorkshire and York & Selby.

The Trust has strong academic links, particulary with the University of York.

New consultants are supported via a new consultant development programme. Opportunities exist for those consultants wishing to undertake medical management roles or medical education roles supporting postdraduate doctors and medical students.

Main duties of the job

Provide clinical leadership to the Hambleton CMHT and Harrogate East CMHT.

Work jointly with colleagues from other disciplines and all relevant agencies to provide a comprehensive approach to patient care and treatment. TEWV supports New Ways of Working in Mental Health and the successful applicant will have a remit to contribute to multidisciplinary working in this context.

To hold Responsible Clinician (RC) status as defined within the Mental Health Act &/or to support a non-medical RC as Approved Clinician (AC) for inpatients when on duty on the out-of-hours on-call rota and maintain section 12(2) approval.

Assist colleagues in the service in planning, implementing and monitoring the service.

Participate in the generic consultant non-resident on-call rota for psychiatry

Participate in clinical governance activities

Contribute to postgraduate teaching and supervision of junior doctors.

Participate in continuing professional development according to Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines.

To participate in and complete all activities required to achieve revalidation and recertification according to GMC and Royal College of Psychiatrists requirements.

About us

The Hambleton team consists of a 0.6wte consultant (this post), 0.5wte Team manager. 0.5wte ANP, Band 5 and Band 6 nurses, Band 4 Associate Practitioner, Band 3 Support Workers and a postgraduate doctor shared with the Richmondshire team.

The Harrogate East team consists of0.4 wte Consultant (This Post), 1 wte ANP, 4.2 wte Band 6 Senior Mental Health Practitioners, 1wt Band 5 Mental Health Practitioner, 0.8 wte Associate Practitioner and 2.7 wte Health Care Assistants.

Doctors are supported in their development via annual appraisals, job planning and revalidation. The Trust provides a range of health and wellbeing services for staff including an Employee Support Service, counselling service, mindfullness sessions, staff retreats and guidance on health and fitness. A car lease scheme is available to staff
