Specialty Doctor in Adult Mental Health (North Durham)

Job summary

This is a new post created to meet service needs. Specialty Doctor will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and provide clinical expertise for both new and ongoing cases particularly issues around psychopharmacology, diagnosis, risk assessments including liaison with the local GPs and inpatient units. All referrals for inpatients will be seen initially by the Crisis Team who are based nearby. Lanchester Road Hospital is the receiving mental health inpatient unit.

Most outpatient work will be at Derwent Clinic however there will be opportunity for home visits with the care co-ordinator and also liaison with Lanchester Road Hospital for instance formulation meetings and pre-discharge meetings.

The patients will generally be seen with their care co-ordinator and although the Specialty Doctor will be able to work autonomously and independently in terms of decision making, there will be close and ready supervision available from the Consultant Psychiatrist. There is also a Core/GP Trainees attached to this Team who are supervised by Dr Linsley and Dr Arebi.

Main duties of the job

New patient assessments.

Medication review/monitoring clinic

Follow up clinics.

Input to Clozapine Clinic.

Monitoring of physical health of patients on psychotropic

Prescribing and medication management

Periodic Home visits.

MDT meetings.

Formulation meetings.

Clinical leadership.

Mental Health Act assessments( for section 12 approved)
