There is a vacancy for a full time
Consultant working into the Psychosis Team covering the area of South Durham
(population 125,000 min 2008), part of the South Durham Locality. This is a
replacement post. In total there are 13 Adult Mental Health Consultant posts
across the locality, which are supported by medical staff from the rotation
scheme in psychiatry, GP Registrars, F2 Doctors and Speciality Doctors.
Main duties of the job
The Consultant will be expected to
provide committed, proactive and responsive clinical leadership working with
other staff to provide an assessment and treatment service for those
individuals suffering from psychosis in the South Durham Locality.As well as providing review clinics at the Goodall Centre, Barnard
Castle and Enterprise House, Spennymoor, the Consultant will also undertake
joint reviews with other team members for complex, unstable and high risk
individuals. There are robust joint-working arrangements across both Affective
and Psychosis teams based at Goodall Centre and this is aimed to support
complexities that may arise in patient care but also patients in whom there is
lack of clarity around which of the two teams they may fit into.Consultants will be fully
involved with the CPA process.
As the RC for patients in the team, the
post-holder will be overseeing Clozapine reviews within the team but the Advanced
Nurse practitioner who is experienced in managing patients on Clozapine will
take an active role in ensuring all monitoring are in place and only concerns
escalated where this is a need to.Due to the support from the junior
doctors, ANC and ANP it is only the most complex cases that are then referred
for review by the consultant psychiatrist or where there may be a legal
obligation due to CTOs etc.
