Job summary

We are pleased to advertise a new and exciting post of CAMHS Mental Health Practitioner working within City of York Youth Justice Service (YJS).

This will focus on early intervention and ensuring that groups of vulnerable children and young people have access to mental health advice and support. Mental health input will comprise of providing mental health assessments and brief psychotherapeutic interventions and assisting in navigating local mental health systems for children and young people who are involved with the YJS. The role will also involve providing advice, training and consultation to other members of YJS, parent (s) / carer (s) and other agencies.

The post will be 0.6 WTE and will be based primarily with YJS at Moor Lane Youth Centre, York.

The successful applicant will ideally already be trained in a governed evidence-based therapy such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), or Systemic Family Therapy (SFT). Experience of working clinically with children and young people with Mental Health and Neurodevelopmental needs is essential.

The role will be demanding but also highly rewarding, so you will need to be someone who is motivated, resilient and passionate about working with this client group. The CAMHS clinician role incorporates managing your own caseload.

Nursing candidates must have 18 months post qualifying experience including sign off of appropriate preceptorship or competency framework at the time of applying.

Main duties of the job

Role of CAMHS Practitioner

Provide assessment, formulation and therapeutic intervention for children andyoung people open to YJS.

Provide a flexible and accessible approach to meeting the emotional wellbeing needs of young people open to YJS.

Provide regular updates regarding mental health input, safeguarding concerns and risk to case manager.

To identify and develop strategies to manage risk to the child or young person.

Undertake liaison and joint work with other agencies.

Offer a range of interventions including; initial comprehensive assessment, guidance, advice and signposting to other services, evidence based interventions,

Attend multi agency safeguarding meetings if actively working with young person.

Give advice and support to manager of YJS in terms of the development of servicesto meet mental health needs of young offenders.

To provide consultation and training on a wide range of children and young peoplesemotional health and wellbeing issues to professionals from a range of services.

To routinely monitor effectiveness of clinical work by the use of Routine OutcomeMeasures (ROMS) and where outcomes are not improving to engage in clinicalreview via supervision.

To be based in YJS and be available to YJS colleagues for consultation and advice.
