Job summary

The York & Selby West Community Mental Health Team is recruiting a Band 5 Community Mental Health Practitioner.

This is an established team, based in Acomb, working with people of working age, who experience a wide range of mental health difficulties. The team consists of mental health professionals including nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, psychologists and psychiatrist. We offer a wide range of interventions to enable the recovery of our service users.

The post is open to nurses, occupational therapists and social workers.

Main duties of the job

You will work as lead professional to a caseload of service users, offering assessment, support and interventions to people with a wide range of mental health difficulties in the community. Part of this work will include liaising with other services, including inpatient, crisis team and third sector organisations, in order to best enable the recovery and support the safety of service users.

You will also work as duty responder, offering support to service users who contact the service on an ad hoc basis, who may have questions or need additional support.

This rewarding post will offer opportunities for continued professional development and training in mental health practice. A full induction is offered, as well as regular support through clinical and managerial supervision.

  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
  • Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
  • For registered nurses: MIP, FLIP, ENB 998 Teaching & Assessing in Clinical Practice or City & Guilds 730 Teaching in Adult Education or willingness to work towards. Qualification must be achieved within agreed timescale.
  • Trained Clinical Supervisor (within agreed timescale).

  • Post-graduate qualification in a relevant area

  • Evidenced based knowledge of best practice in caring for patients in the designated field.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation (e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act).
