Job summary
This is an opportunity for you to join our team as an Activity Co-ordinator working with people experiencing organic mental ill-health as part of a collaborative multi-disciplinary team and supported by the Occupational Therapy service at Auckland Park Hospital, Bishop Auckland. We support older adults living with complex mental health conditions such as dementia and delirium within an inpatient assessment ward.
You will be responsible for planning and providing appropriate activities to meet the general therapeutic, social and recreational needs of individual service users through a client centered approach.

This includes working with others to develop and establish a framework of activities which can be delivered across the ward both individually and within groups. This will need to be flexible and patient centred, changing regularly according to the needs of a patient cohort, and according to the interests of individuals at any given time.
You will need to be able to communicate well with a wide range of individuals, adapting your communication style according to individual need in a responsive manner.
Main duties of the job
Activity Co-ordinators are essential to the development of a critical element of therapeutic provision to service users who are following an inpatient pathway. Along with the multi-disciplinary team, you will help develop a framework of activities which can be delivered across the ward both individually and within groups, understanding individual interest and supporting treatment plans.
The role primarily involves leading the wider team of activity leads you would oversee on the ward, helping ensure patients have a suitable range of accessibly activities which may be within group or 1:1 format. At times the role will also involve supporting health care assistants with aspects of personal care or other nursing related tasks with patients as needed.
