Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Durham Tees Valley Adult Autism Team.

This is the ideal time to become more involved in autism services; the profile and awareness of autism has increased significantly in recent years. Alongside this the Autism Team has undergone substantial change in the way that it works, empowering mental health teams to provide the right care at the right place and time for individuals with autism, in-keeping with community transformation.

The two new posts will be based in the Durham Tees Valley Adult Autism Team working across the Durham and Tees Valley area. The Autism Team are a friendly multidisciplinary team who have had specialist training and experience in understanding Autism Spectrum Disorders, the team includes; Nurses, Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists and an Occupational Therapist.

The posts are full time, Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours a week, however flexible working can be considered. Means to travel independently is required as this is a community post. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

You must be motivated, possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work individually as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team by undertaking work with service users, carers, family members and other agencies.

Main duties of the job

The main roles of the team include;

Supporting the community practitioners across DTV to undertake diagnostic and impact assessments to inform future interventions and support for people with suspected Autism.

Provision of specialist consultation relating to diagnosis for the community teams across DTV.

Provision of specialist training relating to diagnosis for the community teams across DTV.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registration with relevant professional body. (e.g. NMC, GMC, HCPC, Social Work-England)
  • For nursing professions - Recognised Practice Supervisor and /or Practice Assessor, clinical educator or equivalent and
  • Trained in providing clinical supervision
  • For other professions - evidence of training in clinical supervision of other staff and able to demonstrate competence in this area of practice in clinical supervision of other staff and/or students/ trainees.
  • All professions - Postgraduate diploma (or above) in a subject relevant to the area of practice. Or in the absence of postgraduate qualification - Willingness to work towards a postgraduate diploma within 2 years and
  • A recognised advanced clinical qualification or Masters level credits e.g., Intermediate Systemic Family Therapy/Post Grad diploma in CBT/British Isles Dialectical Behaviour Therapy /NMP e.g. dysphagia, posture, autism assessment, rebound, social prescribing, sensory processing, Approved Mental Health Professional, Practice Educator (level 3 Independent Prescriber) * Note any other advanced qualification/masters credits not listed here as an example, must be clearly evidenced and listed as "advanced qualification or masters credits" - within the individuals application form
  • Substantial clinical experience of working in relevant specialist area in collaboration with service users, families and relevant others or transferable experience of similar settings and willing to gain knowledge within first 12 months.
