Job summary

These are full-time, permanent posts and offers the successful candidates an opportunity to work both clinically and at a service development level to improve the service for autistic children, young people and adults who access TEWV services.

Significant experience of working with autistic people (children, young people or adults) is essential for this post, as is experience of working in a mental health setting. You must be motivated, possess excellent communication skills and have the ability to work autonomously as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The ability to work effectively across services and different teams and with our multi-agency partner organisations is key. Service development ideas and innovation in the role are encouraged and welcomed. You must have a commitment to co-production.

Psychologists & Psychological Therapists provide key leadership roles within the Trust. To support this we have developed leadership profiles for each psychology band and the profile card associated with this post is attached on NHS Jobs. You can find more information about the NHS Leadership Academy's Healthcare Leadership Model and the profiles at their website. We encourage you to look at these resources as they will play a part in the interview process.

Main duties of the job

The Trustwide Autism Project was established in 2017 with the following aims:

Train all staff in autism awareness, with relevant clinical staff trained at a higher level.

Ensure all staff understand the impact of Autism on Mental Health.

Make sure staff can make reasonable adjustments for autistic people.

Help autistic people to access mental health services.

Provide a clear pathway to autism assessment.

Provide diagnostic services at the highest possible standard.

Ensure all autistic young people have a consistent, high-quality transition plan in place when they move to adult services.

The project was recognised as being innovative, winning the National Autism Society's Professionals Awards Winner in 2019 for Outstanding Health Services.

This is an exciting time to be joining the team as we have recently been established as a permanent service within the Trust. Trust staff across all specialities need access to specialist training, supervision and support to ensure that our interventions and governed psychological therapies are reasonably adjusted for autistic children, young people and adults and these posts will play a key part in making this happen.
