Job summary

We are looking to employ a full-time (or part-time equivalent) highly motivated, enthusiastic and values-driven assistant psychologist to join the Early Intervention Psychosis team for three months.

Existing routes to gain clinical experience can be challenging to navigate and can further disadvantage aspiring clinical psychologist psychology graduates who experience financial, educational or social barriers (FESB). Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust is passionate about increasing diversity within the clinical psychology profession and is committed to making changes to improve access to the profession.

This post is funded by Health Education England.

Secondments- applicants must ensure that prior to applying they have agreement from their current line manager that they can be released on a secondment basis.

Interview Process

Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust is piloting virtual multiple mini interviews using the SAMMI platform. Candidates who have been successful in the first round of recruitment (longlisting) will be invited to complete an online Multiple Mini Interview. Multiple Mini Interviews require you to have access to a laptop or computer with audio and video functionality. Successful candidates at the Multiple Mini Interview will then progress to the shortlisting phase and be invited to a an interview panel on Microsoft Teams. Main duties of the job

The Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) Service in TEWV works with people from aged 14 to 65 and aims to improve the detection and treatment of first episode of psychosis through providing high quality, evidence based interventions to facilitate recovery. The Harrogate, Hambleton and Richmondshire EIP team have an exciting opportunity for an Aspiring Clinical Psychologist for a 3-month post. The post would be based in Ripon with some travel required to Harrogate and Ripon. The successful candidate would be supervised by a Clinical Psychologist and involve both clinical work and also project work possibly linked to the development of the At Risk Mental State (ARMS) pathway.

  • From an under-represented group in clinical psychology (e.g. from an ethnically minoritized community)

  • Do not have family support
  • Are a care leaver
  • Have not had substantial (more than four weeks full time equivalent) assistant psychologist or research assistant experience
  • Grew up in an area that has a low level of engagement in higher education
  • Have experienced discrimination in academia or in the profession
  • Family being on low income or receiving benefits
  • Receiving government grants whilst at university
