Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Forensic Service for a Speech and Language therapist to work in the Integrated Support Unit within HMP Durham.
The ISU team work with service users with learning disability / autism diagnoses who present with forensic risks. The Team is made up of nursing, Psychiatry, Psychology and Support workers.
The service provides assessment and support for people with learning disabilities, autism and mental health conditions in a community setting.
You will also be part the Health and Justice SLT team who work within a wider Multi-Disciplinary framework to support service users who have communication and swallowing needs in a number of Health and Justice services. There will be flexibility of location across the region as there are a number of Trust and partner agency sites available.
Main duties of the job
Working and promoting a culture of evidence-based practice and person-centred care.
The post holder will also be part of a dynamic SLT service in Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust, with well defined peer support, supervision systems and CPD opportunities.
The post holder will have a degree in Speech and Language Therapy and have significant experience in Speech and Language Therapy including experience working with service users in mental health or learning disabilities with complex needs. Experience of working within forensic settings would be desirable but support and training will be provided.
The post will be to commence as soon as possible with a period of induction and training.
